Holy Spirit Episcopal Church

Graham, Texas

Much has happened since John  published his booklet in 1960, and we hope to soon have an update to the Church history - The Next Fifty Years - available here in the near future.

In 1839, Bishop Leonidas Polk was the first Episcopal clergyman to come to Texas, before Texas became  a State.

In 1874, the First General Convention of the Missionary Jurisdiction in Northern Texas was held in Dallas, and Alexander Charles Garrett was elected Bishop. He made his first visit to Graham in 1876, and the roots of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Graham began to grow, with the help and support of its dedicated members.

In 1960, John Riggs, one of the members of the Church, wrote a booklet detailing the history of the church.
